Minister of State at the Department of Defence (Ireland)

The Minister of State at the Department of Defence is a junior ministerial post in the Irish Department of Defence. The position is always held jointly with that of the post of Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach who is the government Chief Whip. The Minister of State does not hold cabinet rank but does attend cabinet meetings. The position was created on January 1, 1978, replacing the position of Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence.

The current incumbent is Tom Kitt, TD, who took up the post in 2004.
