[edit] Classic Minigames
[edit] Monkey Race
A mini-game that has appeared throughout all the games in the Monkey Ball series, players must guide their monkeys along high-speed tracks in an attempt to reach the goal before their opponents. Super Monkey Ball 2 was the first game to allow players to play with up to 8 computer-controlled racers, suceeded by Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz.[1] Super Monkey Ball featured six stages as did Super Monkey Ball 2, and Super Monkey Ball Adventure. Super Monkey Ball Deluxe featured 12 stages - a collaboration of the stages from SMB and SMB2 - and Banana Blitz features five stages in total [2], whereby Players tilt the Wii Remote, in the similar fashion of Excite Truck, to steer their monkeys.
[edit] Monkey Bowling
A standard game of bowling, whereby players roll down the alleys, using their monkeys to replace bowling balls. You can adjust power, speed, and spin when traveling down the alleyway. In Super Monkey Ball 2, each character features different abilities that affect gameplay. In Banana Blitz, rolling the ball seems to involve flicking the wrist instead of the traditional motion used in Wii Sports. [3]
[edit] Monkey Golf
A standard game of miniature golf, whereby players swing their golf clubs, using their monkeys to replace golf balls. This is, generally, claimed to be the least popular of the classic mini-games. In Banana Blitz, players use the Wii remote to simulate using a golf club. [4]
[edit] Monkey Target
Monkey Target has appeared in all non-handheld games in the Monkey Ball series; players must guide their monkeys in the air and land on targets for points. The version in Banana Blitz features significant changes in comparison to its predecessors. [5] In this version, each monkey carries a secondary ball which can be dropped for points prior to landing on the target. This mini-game has also been "massively" simplified, as evidenced by the replacement of the traditional speed-building ramp for a cannon as well as the fact that there appears to be only one level. Additionally, friction seems to have been reduced on the target causing players to slide farther than in previous games.
[edit] Monkey Billiards
Not dissimilar to regular billiards, Monkey Billiards has players hitting the cue ball, ricocheting it into other balls and having them roll into pockets along the sides of the billiards table. In Super Monkey Ball, only 9-ball rules could be played. However, in Super Monkey Ball 2, players could use 15-ball rules or play by the Japanese 9-ball rules. In addition, a floating arrow helps the player see where the cue ball will go plus there is an overhead view allowing you to see the whole table.
[edit] Monkey Fight
In Monkey Fight, you try to punch the other monkeys with your boxing glove off the platform. In most Super Monkey Ball games, you press A to punch.

[edit] Super Monkey Ball 2
- Monkey Boat:
Monkey Boat is a paddle-boat race. The control stick, which usually controls the monkey, has a diminished role in this mini-game. Instead the L and R buttons are used to paddle the boat with a kayak oar. The monkeys race through an odd river system that seems to be located on the island where they live.
- Monkey Shot:
Monkey Shot is a first-person shooter that, depending on the difficulty, will take the player through different worlds found in the Story mode. Monkey Shot is played "on rails"--the game moves the player on a pre-selected path, the player only doing the aiming. The goal is to shoot enemies, refills, and upgrades, and running out of ammunition requires a reloading. There is a boss at the end of each of the three available stages.
- Monkey Dogfight:
Monkey Dogfight is, as the name implies, an aerial combat game. There are three different arenas in Monkey Dogfight. The game equips the monkeys with the firepower needed to shoot his or her adversaries out of the sky. You may shoot normal shots (which are infinite) or missles (which you can run out of and may only obtain twenty at any given point.) The winner is decided depending on the mode: in Normal Mode, it is the monkey who earns the most points; in Survival Mode, it is the last monkey to not have been shot down.
- Monkey Soccer:
The game's take on the sport of regular soccer; the objective in Monkey Soccer is to score as many goals against your opponent as possible. Before each game, each player is asked to pick a formation. Whoever the team captain is will depend on the formation chosen. (For example, the all-around formation has Meemee as the leader, whereas the defensive one features Gongon.)
During the game itself, each player controls one member of the team, the others being computer-controlled. Control is switched to different player as the game goes on; you always play as the monkey with the ball or, if the opposing team has the ball, the monkey closest to the ball. Various kicks can be executed with the A and B buttons.
- Monkey Baseball:
The game's take on the sport of baseball; each player selects a character, and that player's team will all be that character. (Player 1's character has red clothing and Player 2's blue to differentiate them if both picked the same character.) Instead of the pitcher throwing the ball, he or she rolls towards the batter. The pitcher's speed and direction are fully controllable until the batter hits the ball or a strike is called. Where the batter stands is also controllable until he or she swings the bat. You may also cycle through defensive setups on the field.
Once the ball is hit, monkeys in the outfield can move left or right to catch the ball and call an "Out." However, if they fail to catch the ball, it will land in either one of several compartments at the end of the field, which determines how many bases the batter will run (some compartments count as an Out) or go onto a "Home Run" ramp, which counts as a home run.
After the batting team gets three outs, teams switch control. Whoever is batting next stops a spinner that determins what kinds of compartments will be in the back of the field and which ramps will be up, if any.
- Monkey Tennis:
Standard games of tennis with Singles and Doubles Modes. Singles Mode has one person on each half of the court, and Doubles has two people on each side. Monkey Tennis uses the regular tennis scoring and pretty much plays like tennis in a video game would be played, except that the ball is much bigger and leaves a glowing wake, possibly because an actual-size tennis ball would be too difficult to see. The number of games, sets, and matches are customizable before the competition begins.
[edit] Super Monkey Ball Touch and Roll
- Monkey Hockey:
You can play classic hockey where you move a puck around and try to hit the ball into the other person's goal. Another mode is called Line Smasher, where you draw your own pucks, with a limited amount of ink. You can redraw the puck at any time, which you will want to do because parts of the puck break off. In both modes you can do singles or doubles. There are items you can get that either change the size of the pucks or goals.
- Monkey Wars:
Another new mini-game, this one is a/an FPS. You move around with the D-pad and use the stylus to aim and tap the screen to fire. There are items you can pick up, such as pineapple grenades, a watermelon machine gun, ect. The three courses are Jungle Attack (a tiny simple level), Pyramid Maze (a desert themed, pyramid-shaped arena), and Cosmofield (a large, space level). A point is awarded for every successful shot you make. Whoever has the most points when time runs out wins.
