Mini hockey

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mini hockey (a.k.a. mini sticks, sock hockey, knee hockey or floor hockey) is a miniturized version of ice hockey that is usually played on an indoor carpet. The players use a miniature plastic stick, usually about 15 inches (38 cm) long, and move about on their knees while playing. The puck is a small ball or a soft, fabric covered mini puck and the goals are also miniaturized. It is generally played by two players, although much more rowdy forms involving lots of people are oftened played. There are no official rules as of yet.

Mini hockey is prevalent in New England during the Youth (Ice) Hockey seasons. Games normally form during road trips when youth hockey teams are in hotels. The hallways become the rink and games generally consist of a forward and a goalie on each team. A goal is scored if the ball gets past the goaltender in any form. In larger hallways, a defender is also included. Games end when hotel security arrives.

Mini Hockey is known for its highly evident risk of injury, as the players wear no equipment. The most common injuries are, sitck to the face, stick to any part of the body, as in a slash, incurred from tackling, and from outbreaks of fighting, more common among older players. The games are not usually monitored by any kind of source, except fro those present at the game, therefore there are no officil leagues as of yet and rules vary from reigon to reigon, sometimes even from team to team, causing in game disputes over rules.
