Ming official headwear

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The headwear of a Han Chinese official during Ming Dynasty China consisted of a black hat with two wing-like flaps (small thin oval boards) on each side.

The wings were clipped off following the death of a member of the royal family in order to express sorrow.
