Hall of Fame outfielder Pete Hill, 42, served as the Bears' playing manager, and hit .296 himself in a part-time role. With limited financing and an inexperienced ownership, Hill wasn't able to put together much of a team, being limited mostly to journeyman veterans and castoffs from other teams. Outfielders Pete Duncan (.321), Percy Wilson (.314), and Sandy Thompson (.310) were among the better hitters. Fulton Strong led the pitching staff with only four victories, against 14 defeats.

The club finished in last place with a 12-41 record in league play, and disbanded after the season.
