Milton Regis
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Milton Regis is a village in the district of Swale in Kent, England. It has a population of about 5 thousand. Milton Regis, a suburb of Sittingbourne, offers a tourist attraction with a difference. At Milton creek you will find an old sailing barge yard, which still carries out this type of work on a commercial basis, and a museum dedicated to preserving the past.
In the centre of Milton Regis the royal and varied history can be seen in the buildings surrounding the main High Street. This area was once heavily involved in the paper manufacturing industry, an industry still in operation today. The creek was once used as a power source for the mill to operate, as well as being an effective, safe and cheap method of transporting the goods. A museum project is now underway to help restore the area surrounding the creek as the Periwinkle Water Mill Museum.
