Millie (pejorative)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Northern Ireland, the term millie came to be used in the 19th Century to refer to mill-workers - usually young, working class women who worked in factories within Ireland's huge linen industry. In more recent times, it has become a derogatory term for working class, harsh-spoken women. The word "spide" or "steek" would sometimes be regarded as the male equivalent.

The term is used in a similar way to that of chavette (male equivalent: chav) or Essex Girl in England.
