Milliard

Milliard is a French-derived word meaning the number 109 (one thousand million). It is unused in American English and is rare in other forms of English, though occasionally encountered. During the 20th century, the short scale "billion" has become the normal term in the entire English-speaking world.
"Milliard" is a common word to many other languages other than English, for example "miljardi" in Finnish, "miljard" in Dutch and Swedish, "milliard" in Norwegian and Danish, "miliarda" in Czech, "Milliarde" in German, "miliardo" in Italian, "Milijarda" in Croatian and similarly, "Миллиард" in Russian, "Milijarda/Милијарда" in Serbian, "millardo" in Spanish, "Milyar" in Turkish and מיליארד (IPA: [miliɑʁd]) in Modern Hebrew.
