Miller-Boyett Productions

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Miller-Boyett Productions was a production team consisting of Thomas L. Miller and Robert L. Boyett that mainly developed television sitcoms in the 1980s and 90s. It was responsible for family-oriented hit series such as Full House, Perfect Strangers and Family Matters.

Many of their shows had notable similarities. These include:

  • Elaborate opening credit sequences with lyric-heavy theme songs
  • Theme songs written by Jesse Frederick and Bennet Salvay
  • A third act "lesson learned" scene, complete with dramatic music
  • Fish out of water themes (e.g. a roughneck Italian from Brooklyn living in bucolic Connecticut, or an Eastern European with strange beliefs and customs living in Chicago.)
  • Non-traditional families
  • Inspiration from earlier classic sitcoms (e.g. the Laverne and Shirley-inspired Perfect Strangers and the Brady Bunch-inspired Step by Step)
