Millcreek Township, Utah
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Millcreek Township is an unincorporated area of Salt Lake County, Utah. The township is wedged between Salt Lake City and South Salt Lake on the north and Murray and Holladay on the south. The census-designated places of Canyon Rim, East Millcreek, Millcreek and Mount Olympus lie in the township, which collectively had a population of nearly 70,000 as of the 2000 Census. It is by far the most populous unincorporated area of the county, and would be its fifth-largest city. The township was created by the county in 2002 to give residents of the area more local control over planning and prevent annexations by neighboring cities. Eventual cityhood has been discussed; however, an annexation of a central portion of the township by Holladay has diminished the likelihood of incorporation. The area is only loosely known as "Millcreek", and awareness of the township is not great. Residents heavily identify with adjacent Salt Lake City, which is designated by the U.S. Postal Service as the place name for mailing addresses in the township.
