Military history of Slovenia

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The military history of Slovenia chronicles the period from the 5th Century BC to the present times. In the Early Bronze Age, Proto-Illyrian tribes settled an area stretching from present-day Albania to the city of Trieste.

As the Illyrians developed and permanently settled the area, the Dalmatae gained control of the northern sections of Illyria in the second century BC. Although classified as, the Dalmatae were not a dependency of the southern kingdom. However, the Liburnians, previous settlers of the area around Venice, controlled Slovenia. The Dalmatae, assisted by other seceding Illyrian tribes, repelled the Liburnians from Istria in the first century BC. The Liburnians, under pressure by the Dalmatae and Greeks, were annexed by the Roman Empire in 35 BC.
