Milford, Surrey

Milford is a large village, sited south west of Godalming in Surrey, England. The village has its own railway station (Milford railway station), and is mostly occupied by commuters working in Guildford or London.

Until the 1990s, the A3 road ran through the village (it now bypasses it to the west). Milford is still an important road junction, where the A283 road and A286 roads leave the A3 and run south to West Sussex.

Milford is on the mainline railway between London (Waterloo) and Portsmouth Harbour station.

Milford has an infant school and a secondary school (Rodborough Technology College and Beacon School) which is now a Beacon school with approximately 1,000 pupils. The school takes part in many sporting competitions with other schools in the area and has had particular success in recent netball tournaments.

Milford has one Catholic, one Church of England and one Baptist church. It also has a post office, a chinese takeaway shop, a water softening shop, a shop selling art and crafts made by people in the area, an antiques shop specialising in victoriana, veterinary surgery, a butchers, an off-licence, a corner shop, a bowling shop, an estate agents, a doctors surgery, a petrol station, a swing park and a few pubs.

The village also has a cricket green with a pavilion which also hosts dance, yoga and pilates classes and another green where village fetes, funfairs and circuses are held. Milford also boasts thriving Brownie and Guide Companies and Scouting units.

Milford is part of the borough of Waverley. It is also the home of actress Penelope Keith, who is probably most famous for her role as Margot in 1970's BBC sitcom The Good Life. Witley the next village to Milford was the home to the late comedian Terry Scott known notably for the BBC domestic sitcom Terry and June with June Whitfield
