By definition, a Military brat is anyone that has one or more parents that are serving or have served in the military while the individual was growing up. The term in never used pejoratively, it is one of those self-applied appellations that people use such as the modern use of the word Nerd for someone that has high tech skills, or historically the phrase "Yankee Doodle Dandy" being originally a slur by British soldiers which was then adopted by Americans as a kind of "In your face" reaction. Some military brats further identify themselves according to the branch of service their parents are/were in, as in "Air Force brat", "Army brat", etc.
