Is this the same Mike Magee who's involved in Tantra? —Ashley Y 03:42, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
- Yes it is. See comments on Trantra's talk page 130.225.2.188 09:50, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
Could someone who knows a bit more about the publishing world merge in Magee's corrections, please? —Ashley Y 05:57, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
- Ive removed the annotations from the article for now - here they are:
- [No. I started The Register with John Lettice in 1994. I was a freelance then. I subsequently joined VNU as a chief reporter on PC Dealer. I moved internally to help Caroline Gabriel on the VNU Newswire. Mike Magee.]
- [No. I did run a company. The name of the company was Breakthrough Publishing Limited. It was profitable every year of its existence. Mike Magee.]
- The biography as it stands at the moment isnt full, but the accuracy needs to be cleared up first. -- jeffthejiff 14:58, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
-
- Perhaps until you find someone who can verify the corrections you'd like to remove the disputed items that someone has again put back on the front page and which are demonstrably incorrect See for example this 1997 VNU Newswire piece http://www.vnunet.com/computing/analysis/2073613/viewpoint-why-doesn-uk-finance-home-grown-talent-asks-mike-magee
-
- The VNU Newswire didn't start until after The Register was started.

I've just read through this. I occasionally read The Register. I have no connection with The Register. I do not know Mike Magee. I have read through this article because there is a curious mention in the article on The Register about Mr Magee leaving in controversial circumstances, and that interests me because it is good gossip. The external links section of this article states that Mr Magee was fired from The Register, but there is no mention of this in the article. The section on Magee's employment at VNU seems superfluous; was it a notable failure, causing great financial loss and rancour? Was it reported in the media? The article several times says that Mr Magee is "known for" this and that, but it doesn't provide any examples. Known by whom, and how strongly? Is Mike Magee famous, and how much? How can Mr Magee's contributions be included in this article, given that he is a primary source? Lupine Proletariat 14:12, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
- Mike Magee is a famous poker player. I didn't put any of these entries on Wikipedia originally, but you may as well get your facts at least half straight.
-
- That particular Mike Magee is a professional (re: full time) poker player and has Irish nationality. He is (as far as I'm aware) no relation to this Mike Magee.
- Here's a separate entry on how online journalism in the UK started by Wendy Grossman.
