Mikkola, Ontario

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mikkola is a community in the Ontario city of Greater Sudbury.

For postal delivery and telephone exchange purposes, addresses in the community are considered to be part of Lively, although residents of the area usually consider Lively and Mikkola to be distinct communities.

The community is sometimes referred to as Mikkola subdivision. Some also mistakenly refer to the community as Hillcrest. This is possibly due to the fact that many non Mikkolanians visit the community to participate or attend sporting events at the Kinsmen Sports Complex. As well, for many years, the only visible signage at the community's main opening advertised the Hillcrest Sports Complex, now the Kinsmen Sports Complex.

From 1973 to 2000, Mikkola was part of the town of Walden, in the Regional Municipality of Sudbury. On January 1, 2001, the Regional Municipality was dissolved into the single-tier City of Greater Sudbury.
