Mikhail Leontyev

Mikhail Leontyev (Russian: Михаил Леонтьев) is a controversial Russian journalist working for government-controlled Channel One national TV. He is known for his utterly one-sided "author program" Odnako (Russian: "However!"), irregularly appearing on air following certain political occasions.
Leontyev made several scandalous accusations both in his own show and in various interviews, some of which were later rejected by libel court cases. Particularly, in 2001 he accused Viktor Yuschenko's wife, Kateryna Yushchenko-Chumachenko, of influencing her husband's political decisions with the U.S. (and anti-Russia) ideas, hinting that she is an agent of American government in Ukraine. Mrs. Yushchenko has won two libel cases regarding the accusations in 2002.[1], [2].
In 2006, the Ukrainian government banned Leontyev from visiting the country for five years following his recent insulting statements against Ukrainians and Ukrainian independence.[3],[4]
Leontyev is a bitter critic of the United States and the West. Claiming himself an economy expert, he often predicts dramatic depreciation of the American dollar and subsequent financial catastrophe of the USA. [5]
