[edit] Biography
He abruptly quit law school after 3 weeks and joined the Washington Post as a copy boy, working the graveyard shift. He eventually moved to doing small stories on the legal system and eleven months later was promoted to staff writer by Metro editor Bob Woodward. [3] Six years later he left the Post and became the new drug correspondent for Rolling Stone, after Hunter S. Thompson became unreliable. "I spent two weeks as his indentured servant, living in his hyperreality. He didn’t live in the real world,” Sager said. “It’s almost like there was this fish bowl around his head and it was full of clouds. Nothing really penetrated and there was all this [stuff] bouncing around inside of there.” [4] From there he wrote several notable pieces, including a piece on Vietnam veterans living in Thailand. After working at Rolling Stone for several years, he moved onto GQ, where he wrote an article about his ex-girlfriend Janet Cooke, the fallen journalist. After, he soon became a writer-at-large for Esquire, where he currently is today. He lives in La Jolla with his wife and son. His next collection will be out in spring of 2007 and his debut novel inspired by the Pope of Pot will be coming out in winter of 2007.
