South African independent consultant with vast experience in setting up information and communication systems across Africa.

One of the earlier pioneers in the usage of e-mail. Studied rural planning and development in Canada. Later worked as a journalist in the Rand Daily Mail in Johannesburg from the early 'eighties (1983).

[edit] Network for non-profits in Canada, Australia

On the closure of that paper, he moved back to Canada, in 1986, to launch a communication network for non-profit organisations (and NGOs) called The Web.

Helped set up a similar system in Australia in 1989. Later returned to South Africa.

[edit] Current activities, affiliations

Trustee of the African IT Education Trust, and board member of the South African Interner service provider for NGOs, SangoNet. Jansen has been a member of the African Conference of Ministers' High Level Working Group which was behind the African Information Society Initiative (AISI) in 1996.
