[edit] Football Career

Russell is an allstar, an accolade which he received in the year 2000. Many consider this his best year in a glorious career. His predatory instincts were vital as Kerry overcame Armagh in a semi final replay with russell scoring 2 great goals to help Kerry to an extra-time win. Kerry were again thankful for Russell's scores in another replay against Galway in the final. He arrived on the scene at aged just 19 making appearances as an impact sub during the 1997 campaign, none more so than in the semi-final against Cavan where he grabbed a goal. He has won the all-ireland on four occasions with Kerry in 1997, 2000, 2004 and more recently in 2006. Mike Frank won the all-ireland U21 title with Kerry on two occasions in 1996 and 1998 and a minor title in 1994. Russell has won three national football league medals for Kerry in 1997, 2004 and 2006.
