Mike Eaves is a retired NHL player and a current coach. He played from 1974 to 1986, and coached since 1988. He is also the father of current Ottawa Senator Patrick Eaves. When he coached Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, he was an assistant coach. He was drafted by St. Louis, but never actually played for them. He also won the Ken McKenzie Trophy as the CHL rookie of the year chosen by coaches.

[edit] Playing Career

From 1974-1979, he played 4 years in NCAA with University of Wisconsin. Then he went over to the CHL, playing with the Oklahoma City Stars, and played 3 games with the Minnesota North Stars during the year. The following year he moved up to be a starter for 58 games. He put up similar numbers in his sophomore season but really started to shine offensively in his final year in 1977-78 with 31 goals and 58 assists for 89 points in 43 games. He then played 3 more consecutive seasons with Minnesota, then was dealt to the Calgary Flames, and played there from 1983 until 1986, and then retired after playing 8 years in the NHL. He retired because of a head injury, and decided not to play anymore.

Then, 2 years later, he then was an assistant coach of the Philadelphia Flyers and then coached the Hershey Bears for 3 years. Then in 1993-94, he went back to be an assistant coach for the Flyers. He skipped a few years without being a coach. In 1997 to 2000, he was again an assistant coach for the Pittsburgh Penguins, then the following year, he coached the USHL US. Junior National Team. Then in the 2002 season, he coached his old NCAA team, the university of Wisconsin, and is still a coach.
