Mikael Stanne is the vocalist for the Swedish melodic death metal band, Dark Tranquillity.

[edit] Career

[edit] 1989-Present: Dark Tranquillity

He originally played rhythm guitar and provided backing vocals on Dark Tranquillity's first album, Skydancer, as well as on their early demos, including those released under the name Septic Broiler. After Skydancer, when Anders Friden left Dark Tranquillity, Stanne became the sole vocalist. In addition to his usual "growling" vocals, the band's 1999 album Projector showcased his operatic "clean" singing abilities. He is one of death metals most impressive singers for his abilities to switch styles from a deep bellowing growl to a screaching piercing scream. He also wrote many of the band's lyrics.

[edit] Guest Vocal Contributions

Stanne was a session vocalist for the Swedish melodic death metal band, In Flames, providing the lead vocals on their debut album Lunar Strain (1994). Contrary to popular belief, he was never a full member of the band - he did the session work as a "favor". In 2005 he provided a clean vocal passage on the Nightrage song "Frozen," on their album Descent into Chaos.

He also contributed his voice to fellow Swedish heavy metal band, Hammerfall, from 1993 to 1996, although there are no recordings of him with the band.
