[edit] USC lyrics

My objection to having these here is not because I'm a UCLA alum, but because it serves no real purpose except to disparage its subject, and I would raise the same objection for any other school's fight song page as well. I wouldn't be surprised if other Pac-10 schools have their own lyrics for UCLA fight songs; if we include USC's, wouldn't we have to include the others (if they exist)? Additionally, there's no way for us to tell if the web site that's referenced contains an "official" (or at least generally accepted) version of said lyrics; how do we know that it's not just some guy's or some frat's or whatever? That being said, I don't object to having the external link to them so that anyone who wants to read them can do so. So I'm taking them out of the article. If you disagree, please have the discussion here and I'll put them back in if consensus dictates that I should. howcheng {chat} 06:36, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

  • Another good reason for excluding them is simply their vulgarity. Not that I'm opposed to vulgarity per se, but really, leaving them in only accomplishes one real thing: Showing the world how stupid and full of themselves SC students are. As a lifelong Bruin, I can't say that wouldn't please me, but I'll take the high road and try and protect their reputation too. howcheng {chat} 23:15, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
    • I agree. Having alternate lyrics here is about as appropriate as talking about how the USC fight song has three notes on their page.Attakmint 11:25, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
      • Question though, since lyrics are generally covered under copyright law (and are source text, which Wikipedia doesn't cover), why are there lyrics here in the first place? Radiant_>|< 11:32, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
        • You're right. I'll excise them. howcheng {chat} 17:43, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
