Miguel Larreynaga

Miguel Larreynaga was one of the people traveling to Spain in 1818 asking for independence of the Central American Republic, which was granted to Nicaragua and four other counties in 1821. He is depicted on the obverse of the current 10 Cordoba note in Nicaragua.

Miguel Larreynaga was born in the city of León in Nicaragua on September 29, 1772. His father was Joaquín Larreynaga, (who died before his birth) and his mother was Manuela Balmaceda y Silva who died in childbirth. His paternal grandfather adopted and educated him.[1]
