Mighty Final Fight is a beat 'em up released by Capcom for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993. It is based on the 1989 arcade game Final Fight, but is not exactly a port of the game. It stands out from the original Final Fight due to its super deformed character designs, in which the characters are depicted in a comical child-like manner compared to the realistic character designs of the original game. All three of the main characters from the original game are featured in this game along with childlike counterparts of the enemies.

The game is also set to be released in the compilation Capcom Classics Mini-Mix for the Game Boy Advance.

[edit] Story

The game's premise is exactly the same as the original Final Fight. Mike Haggar's daughter is kidnapped by the Mad Gear gang, leading her father, along with Cody and Guy on a rescue mission to save her. However, the story is depicted in a much more comical fashion than the original game. The gang kidnaps Jessica, not to manipulate Haggar, but rather because their leader Belger is infatuated with her. In addition, Belger is also shown wearing cybernetic body parts, suggesting that the game takes place after the events of the original Final Fight (Cody booted Belger out of the window from the topmost floor of Belger's criminal HQ building at the end). However, due to the nature of the game, this is not considered as part of the Final Fight canon (or Street Fighter canon for that matter).

[edit] Gameplay

Much like the SNES version of Final Fight, the game does not offer any cooperative game modes and is strictly a single player affair. However, unlike that version, Cody, Haggar and Guy are all playable. Each character has virtually all of their techniques from the arcade version (including their energy-draining death blows). The added twist is that after obtaining Experience Level 4, each character can execute a hidden technique performed by a quarter-circle forward motion and pressing the attack button. These new techniques consists of chi attack for Cody, a power kick for Guy and a body splash for Haggar. Each character is also given a unique weapon, which can be found in rolling drums: a knife for Cody, shuriken for Guy and huge mallet for Haggar.

The player also gains experience points by killing goons to boost their strength level like an RPG. Through Level-Ups, the player's HP, offense, defense, and speed increases, giving him a greater chance to survive longer as well as unlocking those deadly hidden potential powers. Some characters (particularly Haggar) increase their level more slowly than others. Experience points can also be obtained by eating food items in addition to killing goons.

The graphics of the backgrounds and character sprites can be visually compared with those "child-like" sprites and "cute" background designs like those in the NES version of Double Dragon.

[edit] Enemy characters

The enemy characters from Mighty Final Fight are analogues to their counterparts from Final Fight. However, with the exception Andore and the bosses, they're considered different characters and as such, are named differently than their counterparts. One of the most noticeable difference is that Poison Kiss (Poison's counterpart) is said to be actually female, rather than a newhalf like her "older sister." She is often mistaken to be the same character, due to fact that she has "Poison" as part of her name. Poison Kiss was kept in the North American release of Mighty Final Fight. Bill Bull (and his clones), Rolento and Edi E. are the only characters from original game that don't have any counterparts in this game.

  • IRON / BRED: Regular weak goon. They attack with a simple jab.
  • GALE / J: Fast street boxers. They love to stride behind you and pound you with fast jabs.
  • POISON KISS / POISON: Corrupted women cops. They attack by slapping you face or by a deadly somersault kick.
  • TEQUILA / EL GADO: Expert knife-wielders. They attack by a sliding kick or a spinning knife attack in the air.
  • SERGE / AXL: One of the higher goons. They do not only attack with a massively-damaging kick, but can also block your attacks.
  • ANDORE: Another higher goons. These bare-chested musclemen pound your face with long-reach punches or a charging shoulder tackle.
  • THRASHER: A boss character who constantly bounds around the arena to attack.
  • KATANA BROTHERS, comprised of the original Sodom, another in red (Muramasa) and a third one in black (Masamune):
  • ABIGAIL: A man with a short temper, kisses his opponents to attack.
  • BELGER: The big boss of Mad Gear. He appears with cyborg implants and uses rocket-fists as weapons.
