Midōsuji Line
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Midōsuji Line (御堂筋線 Midōsuji-sen?) is one of the lines of Osaka Municipal Subway (大阪市営地下鉄 Ōsaka-shiei chikatetsu?), the rapid transit system in Osaka City, Japan. The line is the oldest and most traveled line of the subway system.
It is named after Midōsuji, a major north-south avenue in Osaka. Most of the line runs underneath the Midosuji Avenue, except for the portion north of Nakatsu, which runs above ground in the median of Shin-midōsuji, a elevated freeway.
The section between Senri-chūō and Esaka is operated by Kita-Osaka Kyuko Railway, but is seamless with the rest of the line.
Midosuji Line offers access to Dotonbori, one of Osaka's main tourist attractions.
