Michael Bret Hackney (that's me; born on August 28, 1985 in Nashville) is a junior at Middle Tennessee State University (by the Spring of 2007, he hopes to be a senior), where he majors in Electronic Media Communication-Journalism. Hackney is currently serving as a sports anchor every Thursday night on MTSU's student-run television station, Middle Tennessee Television, a.k.a Channel 10. It is the first time the station has done newscasts in the Summer. Because the two newscasts (there's one on Tuesday as well) were assembled by who was going to be in the area for the Summer, rather than by the usual audition method, the members of the station refer to this edition of the news as an "All-Star" edition.
Hackney is a 2003 graduate of John Overton High School in Nashville. Hackney hopes his career will take him to NBC Sports one day, where he wants to become the network's top on-air personality. He also wants to become the American narrator for Thomas & Friends some day, and become a Little Caesars franchisee (because God knows there aren't enough here in the Volunteer State).
Hackney has written many articles for Wikipedia, among them Kraig Kann, Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, Dan Hicks (sportscaster), and he has edited many numerous articles.
In his spare time, Michael enjoys watching television (but not his own sports segments, as those make him cringe), playing video games, and hanging out with his friends at school. He is single, and has unfortunate luck with women.
Hackney's all-time favorite Formula One driver is Damon Hill; his present-day favorite is Juan Pablo Montoya. He also loves Champ Cars (his favorite driver there is Cristiano da Matta), the British Touring Car Championship, V8 Supercars, and other forms of motor racing. His favorite NHL teams are the Colorado Avalanche and Nashville Predators. He attended four Preds games this past season. His favorite NFL teams are the Tennessee Titans and the Seattle Seahawks (damn refs); his favorite Major League Baseball teams are the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (I..uh, he has a longer name for them); his favorite golfer is Tiger Woods, though he really loves Annika Sorenstam, too. He also loves reading about Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer, and the 2005 UEFA Champions League final between Liverpool F.C. and AC Milan is the best soccer game he's ever seen, even above all the great moments the U.S. women's national soccer team (he loves them, too) has given him over the years.
His top six favorite sportscasters are Bob Costas, Jim McKay, Hicks, Tom Hammond (he wrote that article, too), Jimmy Roberts (and that one), and JP Dellacamera (and that one as well).
His favorite female sportscasters are Michelle Bonner, Mary Carillo, Michele Tafoya, Bonnie Bernstein, and others.
