- Graduated with Bachelor of Arts degrees in History and Communications Studies from the University of Calgary

- Taken on strength with The Calgary Highlanders in 1987, served continuously, qualifying as a corporal in the Musician trade; transferred to Resource Management Support Clerk trade.
- Decorated three times; with the Canadian Forces Decoration, the Alberta Centennial Medal[1], and awarded the rank of Henchman in the Clan of the Gallant Canadians.

- Published Dressed to Kill, CANUCK: Clothing and Equipping the Canadian Soldier 1939-1945 Vol. I, and An Officer and a Gentleman; all three books deal with Canadian Army uniforms in the Second World War.
- Published works include a magazine article on Canadian Army uniforms in the Korean War for Military Modelling and a separate article on the same subject published in Military Trader.
