Microwave Limb Sounder

A Microwave Limb Sounder measures (naturally-occurring) microwave thermal emission from the limb (edge) of Earth's upper atmosphere. The data is used to create vertical profiles of atmospheric gases, temperature, pressure, and cloud ice.
