Microsoft Visual C Sharp

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The correct title of this article is Microsoft Visual C#. The substitution or omission of a # sign is because of technical restrictions.

Visual C# is Microsoft's implementation of the C# programming language specification. It is based on the ECMA/ISO specification of the language, which Microsoft also created. While multiple implementations of the specification exist, Visual C# is by far the one most commonly used. In most contexts, an unqualified reference to "C#" is taken to mean "Visual C#."

The term Visual here denotes a brand-name relationship with other Microsoft programming languages such as Visual Basic, Visual FoxPro and Visual C++. All of these products are normally packaged with a graphical IDE and support rapid application development of Windows-based applications.

The article C# pertains to the language specification, and avoids references to Microsoft's implementation.
