Mick Kavanagh

(Michael) "Mick" Kavanagh (born 6 April 1979) is an Irish sportsman. He is the right corner-back on the Kilkenny senior hurling team.
Michale Kavanagh was born in Freshford, County Kilkenny in 1979. He was educated locally and currently works as a financil advisor with Royal Liver. He plays club hurling with his local St. Lachtain's Gaelic Athletic Association club. While still at school he was noted as a great hurler, winning 2 Fitzgibbon Cup medals as well as an All-Ireland Colleges medal. Kavanagh joined the Kilkenny hurling panel in 1998 winning his first Leinster Championship title. It was the first of six Leinster medals in-a-row. The following year he won his first All-Ireland medal, when Kilkenny claimed the All-Ireland Under-21 Hurling Championship.
Kavanagh won his first senior All-Ireland title in 2000 when Kilkenny defeated Offaly in one of the most one-sided All-Ireland finals in decades. In 2002 he won his first National Hurling League medal, before finishing off the year with a second All-Ireland medal. 2003 was a special year for Kavanagh as he won a second consecutive League title, as well as a third All-Ireland medal. He won his seventh and eighth Leinster medals in 2005 and 2006, before claiming his third league medal and fourth All-Ireland medal in 2006 also. Kavanagh has won two All-Star Awards in 2002 and 2003, as well as claiming three Railway Cup medals with Leinster.
