[edit] Michael Wormwood

Michael is the brother of Matilda Wormwood in the novel 'Matilda' by Roald Dahl. he is not given a very large part in the novel, but the film expands on his personality.

[edit] Differences

In the book, Michael seems to be a completely normal boy, and very skinny. In the movie, he is very fat and seems to be unintelligent. He is also mean to Matilda, and throws things at her. He seems to have a liking for his father's illegal actions in both the film and book.

[edit] Punishments

Matilda punishes her brother in the film by using her powers. The first punishment may have nothing to do with her levitation, but it seems likely. In a restaraunt, the Wormwood parents bump into a waiter, causing two cakes to fly into the air. One cake falls onto Matilda's plate, gently, along with a fork. A large cake falls onto Michael's plate, splattering all over him. The second punishment is an obvious use of powers. Michael throws a carrot at Matilda while her back is turned. She immediately turns around, and the carrot turns around and shoots itself at Michael, forcing it into his mouth, causing him to cough and sputter. As the scene shifts, it is unknown how long Michael had to spend with the carrot stuck in his mouth.
