Michael Umaña (born July 16, 1982 in San José, Costa Rica) is a Costa Rican soccer defender.
Umana spent the 2005 Major League Soccer season with the Los Angeles Galaxy. Prior to coming to the Galaxy, Umaña played for Club Sport Herediano. He played for the Costa Rican national team at various youth levels, and was part of their squad at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Umaña has recently been a part of the senior squad for the 2006 World Cup Qualifying and will be wearing the number 4 shirt in the finals.
Umana was released by the Galaxy after the 2005 season after an unsuccessful campaign and returned to Costa Rica to play for Brujas. He has 16 full caps to his name (as of May 18, 2006).
He played for Costa Rica in the 2006 World Cup and signed with Belgian club FC Brussels following the tournament.
