[edit] Background
Micheal has already built up a huge national profile despite his tender years. He made his debut for Cavan against Galway in a NFL match before the start of the All-Ireland Championship in the summer of 2004 and scored 4 points. He started at centre-half forward in the opening game of Cavan's Ulster Championship campaign in 2004 against Down and scored 6 points in a man of the match display. In 2005, Micheal struggled with groin and hamstring injuries all year and missed most of Cavan's campaign. He did manage to score an injury-time free after the draw with would-be champions Tyrone in an early round though. In October, he inspired his club Cavan Gaels to a third successive county championship but was soon injured again while on duty for the Ulster team in the Interprovincial Series.
[edit] History
Micheal's move to Cavan Gaels was highly controversial. Aged just 16, Lyng was lured to the Gaels from native club Crosserlough, thus robbing the rural outfit of their star. Since the move however, Lyng's career has gone from strength to strength.
[edit] Personal life
Lyng has been dubbed "the sixth Beatle" after George Best who is the fifth.[citation needed] His boyish good looks, rippling physique and flowing blond hair have made him a national icon and very popular with female fans. He is going out with The Cavan Rose Julieanne Sherdian His father Michael recently won €64,000 on national gameshow 'Winning Streak'.
Lyng is also the co-founder of the website gaaresults.ie, a service that provides nationwide GAA results on a subscription basis.
