Michael Chaney

Michael D. Chaney is a Linux consultant who saved Microsoft's Hotmail service from a Christmas 1999 outage by kindly paying a $35 Network Solutions registration fee for them.

On December 24, 1999, Microsoft forgot to renew their Passport.com domain so Hotmail webmail service became unavailable.

On March 2002, Microsoft again forgot to renew other of its domains, this time was hotmail.co.uk and was also paid by a private individual.
