Miami Intermodal Center

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Miami Intermodal Center (MIC) is a planned transportation hub being developed by the Florida Department of Transportation. It will offer centralized transfer between Metrorail, Amtrak, Tri-Rail, buses, taxicabs, rental cars, private automobiles, cyclists, and pedestrians. The first construction project of the center will be the MIA-MIC Connector, a people mover between Miami Intermodal Center and the adjacent Miami International Airport. The completed center will cost $1.4 billion for 1.2 million square feet (110,000 m²), expected to serve approximately 150,000 commuters and travelers each day.

The United States Department of Transportation designated MIC as a "Project of National Significance", earning it special loan rates. The first of these loans was made in 2000 for $269 million. A smaller loan of $170 million was completed in 2005.
