Talk:Mezzo-soprano
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Why are mezzo and alto roles in musicals and operettas together in this article? Why not put the altos in the alto article?
- As no one has replied, I've removed those I know to be altos from the list and am about to put Mme. Giry into the alto article (the others were already there).

[edit] page moving
For some reason, I didn't move the talk page properly when I moved mezzo soprano to mezzo-soprano. --Ixfd64 07:56, 2005 July 20 (UTC)
I Demand For Aaliyah to be moved in the "Mezzo-Soprano" catergory right now
- Aaliyah had a high, girly voice. She is definitely not a mezzo. Mezzos have deeper voices. Also, who do you think you are coming here and "demanding"? Orane (t) (c) (e) 00:00, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

- Yes, but she was NOT a soprano. Tracks like If Your Girl Only Knew, I Care 4 U, The freestyle on her first album showcase her husky lower register. As such she was a lyric contralto, but with a high tessitura which was unique (most altos have a low tessitura). Also, to the other person, no need to DEMAND, discuss :-). [edit] Pants roles
Any opinions as to putting all the pants roles under a separate heading? Roscelese 20:51, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- Are they "pants roles" or "breech roles"? The article uses both terms. Valley2city 18:03, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
- It's a UK/US english thing. UK tends to call them "Breeches" roles, not least because pants refers to underwear in British usage and that it actually what most males would have worn up until some point in the 19th century so it's possibly a more accurate description anyway. [edit] Tina Turner
I think now she has very low and wide 3 octave contralto voice. Maybe in her youth she was mezzo, now she sounds almost like a baritenor. Doxent 8 Aug 2006
[edit] Kate Bush
I think Kate Bush is mostly known for her higher, more ethereal singing, which sounds more soprano-like to me. rouenpucelle 9 Aug 2006 She can easily sing low to the D3 or E3 which is also contralto. doxent 10 Aug 2006
[edit] Famous pop singers and their range
Someone deleted the whole section of pop singers citing WP:OR policy so I decided to restore it for further research on my user page: Doxent 16:24, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
Well it's gone again and I highly implore someone to bring it back. For those of us unfamiliar with 'classical' musicians and styles citing popular exponents can really help to understand. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 58.160.176.52 (talk • contribs).
