Mevo'ot Yericho

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mevo'ot Yericho is situated in the southern Jordan Valley, just north of Jericho, Israel.

The settlement was set up in 1999 as a station for agricultural experiments but quickly became an agricultural community.

The local area is called Bika'at Yitav (the Yitav Valley) and is higher than the Jordan Valley (though still 150M under sea level).

Today 21 families live in Mevo'ot Yericho (approx. 85 people). The community has lemon and date trees in large amounts (several hundred) and small amounts of many other plants (figs, grapes, sweet potatoes, passion fruit and more). More plantations are planned.

In the last year a project for high school girls from difficult backgrounds has been started. The girls live and work in the community and travel to Jerusalem for their studies in the evening.
