In 1960, the Metropolitan Corporation of Greater Winnipeg took over responsibility for transit and certain other services of the City of Winnipeg and surrounding municipalities.

The administration offices were located at 100 Main Street. The building is currently the administrative headquarters of the City of Winnipeg Streets & Transportation Department.

Metro Winnipeg operated from November 1960 to December 31, 1971.
