[edit] Clarification requested

Mesocyclones form when strong changes of wind speed and/or direction with height ("wind shear") sets the lower part of the atmosphere spinning horizontally. The updraft of a thunderstorm can then draw this area of spinning air from horizontal to vertical.

This is rather hard to understand...a more lengthy description specifying exactly what "vertical" and "horizontal" mean, and how linear winds are translated into spin would be helpful. A diagram would be very helpful. -- Beland 22:37, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
Yay, we have diagrams now! Thanks! -- Beland 05:17, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
