Mesut Özil (born October 15, 1988) is a young Turkish-German footballer currently playing for FC Schalke 04. Standing at 180 cm and weighing 70 kg, he has previously played for Rot-Weiss Essen (2000-05), DJK Falke Gelsenkirchen (1999/00), DJK Teutonia Schalke-Nord (1998/99), and DJK Westfalia 04 Gelsenkirchen (1995-98). He is a midfielder and wears 17 as his squad number. He has been called up to the U-19 German national team after starting as playmaker and central attacking midfielder in the place of the suspended Lincoln in Liga Pokal matches against Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich.
