Mesrour

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mesrour is a black horse owned by the fictional character Edward Rochester in Charlotte Brontë's novel Jane Eyre. When Jane first sees Mesrour she mistakes him for a Gytrash until she sees Mr. Rochester riding him.

Often when Rochester rode Mesrour, they were accompanied by Rochester's black and white dog, Pilot.

The name derives from the 1001 Nights, in which Mesrour is the chief eunuch in the palace of Caliph Harun al Rashid.
