Merville Garden Village
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Merville Garden Village is a post-war housing project in Newtownabbey, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It consists of 450 houses, shops and flats, completed in 1950. The village was the idea of builder Thomas McGrath, who formed Ulster Garden Villages in 1946.
The village is an example of French architectural influence, having a dual carriageway boulevard running through its centre, with avenues of houses and flats running off either side. It is built in a similar style to the Garden city movement.
The village was designated a conservation area in 1995.
It is a popular area for commuters to Belfast, being convenient to road, motorway and bus links.
