Merseyrail Electrics

Merseyrail Electrics is the company name of the franchise holder of the Merseyrail service. The name was originally used by Merseyside Transport Ltd (M.T.L. Holdings Ltd/MTL), the holder of the franchise following privatisation of British Rail in 1995. The company became bankrupt in 1998, and the franchise was handed to Arriva Trains Merseyside.
The name was revived by the consortium of Serco and NedRailways for its running of the franchise from 2003.
