"Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy V" is a SpongeBob SquarePants episode from Season 3.

Brief summary: Although he is a man, Barnacle Boy is being treated too much like a boy. Tired of it, he becomes a villain. It's up to Mermaid Man to get him back to his old self, so he recruits SpongeBob, Squidward, Patrick, and Sandy to help him.

Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy are holding up the line at the Krusty Krab, trying to decide what to order. So SpongeBob suggests for them to try the Krabby Patty. Finally, Mermaid Man orders a Krabby Patty and a Pipsqueak Patty for Barnacle Boy. However, Barnacle Boy wants a full sized Krabby Patty but Mermaid Man says that Barnacle Boy will never finish it so he finally becomes tired of being treated like a kid and a sidekick, because he's almost as old as Mermaid Man. So, he changes his name to Barnacle Man, and turns over to a life of crime and joins Man Ray and the Dirty Bubble to form EVIL (Every Villain Is Lemons). It's then up to Mermaid Man, SpongeBob, Patrick, Sandy, and Squidward to bring Barnacle Boy back over to the side of justice. But they mess up and Mermaid Man surrenders and prepares to obey every rule Barnacle Boy commands. The first command: to be treated as a superhero not a sidekick. The second command: to be reffered to as Barnacle Man, and the lasr command: to get adult sized Krabby Patties. The other members of EVIL are disappointed by these demands. Baracle Boy feels sorry for what he has done and goes back to the side of justice again. The episode ends with everyone laughing.

Barnacle Boy: Feed this old man! ( Barnacleboy slaps Mermaidman , and SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Sandy and Mr. Krabs go "oooooh". )
Barnacle Boy: I'm tired of playing second banana to a man who wears a bra! From now on I want to be called Barnacle MAN!!! And I'm through with protecting citizens who don't respect me!
SpongeBob: I respect you, Barnacle Man!

  • This episode parodies Justice League and the Super Friends.
  • IJLSA: "The International Justice League of Super-Acquaintances" is a parody of the Justice League. However, the Elastic Waistband is a parody of Mr. Fantastic and Plastic Man and Captain Magma is a parody of the Human Torch from the Fantastic 4. Miss Appear was also a parody of the Invisible Woman. Also, The Quickster is a parody of The Flash, an actual member of the Justice League.
  • Barnacle Boy/Man's quote, "I'm going over to the Dark Side", is a Star Wars reference.
  • When Barnacle Boy became Barnacle Man, his outfit had a cloak that resembled that of Darth Vader's.
  • Squidward's line "Krakatoa" was also the name of a Trampsteamer in the animated TV series TUGS.
  • Man Ray also resembles Darth Vader.
  • The way the superheroes' costumes are stored could be one of the possible references on Batman.

  • E.V.I.L. stands for "Every Villian is Lemons". Note that "villain is misspelled "villian".
  • When Barnacle Boy is telling Mermaid Man his demands, his hand has five fingers (Note that the only characters who have five fingers in the show are Man Ray and King Neptune), then after that scene his hand is back to four fingers.
  • When the camera pans on SpongeBob's IJLSA lunch box, one can see that the then Mermaid Man has two shells on his chest instead of his bra. Also, the background around the lunchbox suggests that it is outside, when it is really in the Mermalair.
  • When Patrick says "Does this mean we're not getting pizza?" the captions say that Spongebob said that.
  • If you look closely when Mr. Krabs says "No world means no money!", his right arm is disconnected from his sleeve.
  • Even though Miss Appear rhymes with disappear, the name implies that instead of being able to become invisible, she will only become even MORE visible.
  • It is revealed that Barnacle Boy's real name is Kyle.
  • The Dirty Bubble and Man Ray's license plate on their car reads "MEAN-2-U".
  • Barnacle Boy's age is revealed to be 68 years old.
  • This episode made its first DVD debut on the DVD "Fear of a Krabby Patty". There were also storyboards for these episodes, including this episode. The storyboard version of this episode was called "Super Friends", was 19 minutes long, including the opening theme song for the series and the end credits, contained a few deleted scenes, two deleted characters, and one added character with a different name. Then, the episode debuted again in the DVD release of the third season.
  • This episode was also referred to as "Super Friends" by Patchy the Pirate during The Best Day Ever
  • It also revealed that Squidward used to have a girlfriend.
