Merle Dandridge is an American actress who was born in Okinawa, Japan. Her father was a US serviceman from Memphis and her mother was a local Okinawan. Merle is primarily a stage actress, but has had several roles in television. She has recently gained a wider audience as the voice of Alyx Vance in the award winning Half-Life 2 and its "expansion" Episode One.

As well as Okinawa, Merle has lived in Sacramento, California, at Beale Air Force Base, and later at the Strategic Air Command Base in Bellevue, Nebraska, where she spent the majority of her childhood. She attended Papillion La Vista High School and participated in the Play Production class and theater departement there.

She then attended Roosevelt University (currently called the Chiacago College of Performing Arts) with a scholarship that she earned at the International Thespian Festival. Whilst there her love of acting and theatre developed.
