She had always been in love with Adam Loveday and secretly dreamed of using her beauty to seduce and marry him. She succeeds in seducing him, but he is forced to return to his ship shortly after without any promise of marriage. When she learns that she has fallen pregnant with his child, Meriel grows desperate reluctantly allows herself to be taken by St John, who also desires her. When her family learn of this, they force St John to marry her.
Grudgingly accepted into the Loveday family, Meriel at last has access to the life she always wanted. But she never forgets what she saw as Adam's betrayal, and is determined to make him pay.
