Meret Becker (Meredith Becker, born 15 January 1969 in Bremen) is a German actress and singer.
[edit] Biography
Meret Becker is a daughter of the actors Monika Hansen and Rolf Becker and a sister of Ben Becker.
She was married to Alexander Hacke (member of a band Einstürzende Neubauten), who also contributed to her music albums, such as Noctambule. She was a guest musician on Einstürzende Neubauten's album Ende Neu, singing one of the band's mellowest songs - "Stella Maris" - in a duet with Blixa Bargeld. She also appears in a video of "Stella Maris" and in 2000 Meret and Bargeld performed this song live at the Neubauten's 20th anniversary concert in Berlin. She played the character Erna Eggstein in the 1997 German film "The Harmonists".
A year later, in 1998, she gave several performances along with Nina Hagen. The small but sold-out tour was called "Wir heißen beide Anna" where both of them sang several songs by Bertold Brecht and Kurt Weill.
Meret has since recorded two more albums, Nachtmahr and Fragile. Just like the first album, both of them contain songs, poetry and short stories, played with unusual instruments and avant-garde arrangements.
In 1993, she appeared as the female singer in the U2 video for Stay, Far Away, So Close!
In 2005 she was a supporting actress in the film Munich, directed by Steven Spielberg.
