[edit] Mercer Island High School

Mercer Island High School (MIHS) is well known for its quality. Often regarded as the top public high school in the State of Washington, MIHS has received the prestigious 2006 Blue Ribbon School award. Also, the Seattle Times ranks MIHS as the best public high school for college preparation [2].

In addition to featuring the highest SAT scores [3] in the state for any open-enrollment public high school, MIHS also features the highest state-test achievement level (known as the WASL – Washington Assessment of Student Learning). More than 95% of graduates pursue higher education.

MIHS features a wide range of special education, regular, advanced, honors, and AP classes. MIHS is also well regarded for its arts programs. In 2006, the MIHS band was invited and played in the Rose Bowl parade.

[edit] Sports

MIHS sports teams are very strong performers, with state championships in nearly every sport. In particular the basketball, swimming, waterpolo and lacrosse teams for boys and girls have been the most successful. The girls and boys tennis teams have won a combined 41 state championships since 1972. The basketball team, coached by the all-time Washington State wins leader, Ed Pepple [4], recorded its first losing season in 38 years in 2006 [5].

In 2006, MIHS won state championships in boys swimming, boys lacrosse, boys tennis, both boys and girls water polo, boys golf, and chess.
