Mercedes Scelba-Shorte

Mercedes Scelba-Shorte (born 24th August, 1981, Valencia, California), also known as Mercedes Yvette, is an American fashion model and actress. She was a contestant and finalist on the 2nd season of America's Next Top Model. During the season, Mercedes revealed that she suffers from the disease lupus. [1]

Scelba-Shorte was studying for a degree in communications at California State University before auditioning for America's Next Top Model. She was accepted, and was eventually chosen as one of the 12 finalists (Cycle 2, 2004).

Scelba-Shorte was born to a Caucasian mother and an African American father, but has a Chinese step-father. Scelba-Shorte was born in New Jersey but her mother, Mary Scelba, moved her to California at a young age.

Since Top Model, she has become the Spokesperson for the National Lupus Foundation of America. [2]

She signed with NOUS Models and has also landed small roles in a number of TV shows including One on One, All of Us and The Bold and the Beautiful. [3]
