The Mercedes-Benz Vaneo was a leisure activity vehicle based on the platform of the previous generation A-class, sold in the from 1997 to 2004. It boxy and upright appearance led some people to say that it got part of its name from the word van.

This vehicle is also regarded by many as being van-like to drive and in its acceleration. The interior looks more like a van than a car. It is said not to be as well built as expected of a Mercedes[citation needed]. However, the Vaneo waspart of Mercedes' world-wide range of vehicle offerings, which include cargo vans and trucks. This can be surprising to people who live in markets where Mercedes has been only known as a luxury car marque.
